NOrCa - Not Ordinary Cannabis

NOrCa - Not Ordinary Cannabis

In recent years, the hemp (Cannabis sativa L. non-psychotropic) market has grown rapidly, with a projected compound annual growth rate of 16.8 per cent from 2022 to 2030. However, the hemp waste processing industry is still in its infancy. The “NOrCa - Not Ordinary Cannabis” project aims to valorise hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) waste, exploring more than 400 molecules in the residues, including minor cannabinoids and non-cannabinoid phenolic and terpene compounds. The approach includes environmentally friendly extraction protocols, advanced analytical methods, evaluation of biological activities, and scientific dissemination. Expected outcomes include new molecular probes, compounds with promising in vitro activity, and analytical standards to certify hemp-derived products.
